Effectia to design a new Research Centre on Ageing in Álava
Effectia will work for the Provincial Institute of Social Welfare of the Álava Provincial Council (IFBS) on the design and definition of a new Research Centre on Ageing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, intended to become a reference centre in Álava.
The aim is to provide specialist technical advice for the creation of the centre, bringing experience and expertise to the process. The new facility will analyse and improve understanding of ageing among people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as the challenges associated with it, opening up new avenues for knowledge, understanding and the search for alternatives that respond to people’s needs in a holistic way.
By 2050, one in six people worldwide will be over the age of 65 (16%), compared with 9% today. By that date, one in four people living in Europe and North America could be aged 65 or over. The number of people aged 80 or above is expected to triple, from 143 million in 2019 to 426 million in 2050. These figures illustrate a scenario that public administrations must address while also considering the specific characteristics of different population groups. The centre in Álava takes this approach and aims to become a benchmark in its field.
