Effectia returns to the Transfiere Forum with a panel on talent and technology transfer

The European project, funded under Horizon Europe, is one of the most significant initiatives aimed at consolidating and recognising the role of the research manager in Europe.

Effectia once again took part in the Transfiere Forum to discuss research talent and technology transfer, bringing together a panel comprising Teresa Riesgo, Secretary General for Innovation at Spain’s Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities; Laura Olcina Puerto, President of the Spanish Federation of Technology Centres (FEDIT); Pilar Pasarón, Head of Government Affairs at the AstraZeneca Foundation; and Gema García, Director of Corporate Venturing, TechBD and Open Innovation at Repsol.

The round table, moderated by Effectia CEO Lorena Muñoz, was entitled “Purpose-driven scientific careers: the new role of science in society” and took place in the Science Room on 12 March at 1:40 p.m. The discussion began from the premise that candidates — in this case, scientists — increasingly choose where they want to work, looking for employers that allow them to develop professionally while also meeting their personal and career expectations.

The speakers agreed that Spain is in an excellent position in terms of researcher training and its ability to generate professional opportunities in science and technology transfer.

Teresa Riesgo noted that “Spain is no longer a country that drives talent away. It now attracts it,” highlighting this as an opportunity for the country. FEDIT President Laura Olcina focused on how important it is for companies to create attractive jobs where young people “can feel proud of the company they work for”.

Pilar Pasarón highlighted the high standard of research carried out in Spain and the research hubs and networks that create attractive environments for research talent.

In this context, Repsol’s Gema García pointed to the challenge companies face in finding people with the necessary technical and management expertise, while stressing that the energy transition and transformation of the energy sector offer significant opportunities for these new professionals. She also highlighted the value to Repsol of receiving the European HR Excellence in Research Award (HRS4R), which recognises the company’s commitment to the professional development of its researchers.
