The session took place at the Spanish State Research Agency stand and examined recent developments in the European framework for human resources in research, with particular emphasis on the procedural and strategic changes affecting both research institutions and researchers themselves.
HR Excellence in Research is consolidating its role as a central tool for strengthening excellence, transparency and the attractiveness of research careers in Europe. One of the main themes of the presentation was the update to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct, which has moved from 40 to 20 principles and incorporates a more ambitious vision aligned with the current challenges of the European R&D&I system. This simplification is intended to facilitate effective implementation while retaining a focus on key areas such as working conditions, open and merit-based recruitment processes and continuous professional development.
Another major development highlighted was the launch of the ERA Talent Platform, conceived as a single gateway to the main European instruments related to research talent. The platform brings together resources such as EURAXESS, the HR Excellence in Research award, the pan-European RESAVER pension scheme and the European Research and Innovation Careers Observatory, strengthening the coherence and visibility of Europe’s talent ecosystem.
The new European competency frameworks were also presented, both for researchers (ResearchComp) and research managers (RM Comp). These frameworks provide a structured definition of the transversal competencies needed to build strong and diverse professional careers, facilitating cross-sector mobility, employability and recognition of skills across different institutional and geographical contexts.
Effectia is a leading European consultancy in this accreditation, with more than one hundred successful experiences supporting clients through the award and renewal process. Overall, the session provided an up-to-date, strategic and practical overview of the Human Resources Award, highlighting its role as a key instrument for improving working conditions, strengthening institutional governance and contributing to a more attractive, competitive and sustainable European Research Area.
